Replacing the existing Pulvasol mounted sprayer towards the end of this year is the all-new Alto. Aimed at smaller mixed farms, it is available with spray tank capacities of 300, 400, 600 and 800 litres. The smaller two feature a 40-litre rinse tank, while the larger two have an 80-litre rinse tank. All four have a 15-litre hand wash tank.

There is a choice of two regulation systems: constant pressure or DPM (600- and 800-litre sprayers only). Using the constant pressure system, the ground speed has to be maintained to ensure a constant dose rate, while with the DPM system the application rate is proportional to the engine speed.

The Alto comes with a 60 lit/min diaphragm pump or a 105 lit/min piston pump. Boom choices include an Eco flat-folding boom at 9m or 12m wide, or an X-folding boom at 7m or 9m.

A suspension system is available for the X-folding boom.

One or two hosereels can be specified for the Alto to carry out localised spraying, while other options include: electric spraying on/off; manual or electric section control management; and a stand-alone hopper induction filling system so you don’t have to fill the tank via the top lid.

The new Alto mounted sprayer will be available with capacities from 300-800 litres

    New Ulys boom
Best described as being constructed from steel in a perforated, rectangular box section, Berthoud’s Ulys boom is now available on the Elyte mounted sprayer in widths of 18, 20, 21 and 24m.
The boom is said to be easier to stow because of the smaller dimensions of the box section, and it folds away vertically at the rear of the sprayer, giving much easier access to the sprayer hatch and the tractor cab.
The boom offers exceptional working stability thanks to the Axiale suspension system that is used to mount it to the sprayer, while it also features unprecedented flexibility in work as the boom sections can be folded-in independently, one side at a time, and the boom levelled, to allow for different working widths/configurations.
Another feature of the Ulys boom is that the spray nozzles are housed with the steel box section, providing exceptional protection from damage or fowling by crops or obstructions, while a unique cam system in the joints between the boom sections allows adjustment to be made to keep the boom true after normal working wear.

Tenor sprayer folds three times to
shorten the length of the stowed boom
and reduce the total height of the machine.

    Kondor boom
Another new boom innovation at Berthoud is the Kondor three-arm unit that is available on the Tenor 4,300- and 5,500-litre trailed sprayers and the Raptor 4,200-litre self-propelled sprayer.
This new steel boom is compact when folded, but has a very wide spread when deployed, being available in working widths of 32, 33, 36 and 38m.
Folding the boom three times means that the overall length of the sprayer is shorter, while the height is also reduced as the boom does not stick up so high.
The Kondor features Berthoud’s Pendulo-Axiale suspension combining the advantages of the Axiale suspension (excellent handling on bends and sloping ground) with those of the Pendulo suspension (optimum stability on rutted ground). The switchover from Axiale to Pendulo modes is controlled from the cab using a hydraulic lock.

    Automated valve control
To satisfy the requirements of the standards for residual volumes, Berthoud has concentrated part of its research on its Dualmatic valve block and the Berlogic control panel that allows users to control most sprayer functions using just two handles.
Situated near the tank outlet and close to the pump, the Dualmatic system has allowed the company to keep residual volumes as low as possible by using shorter connecting pipes and a more compact overall design.
While the Dualmatic/Berlogic assembly has been available since 2007 on the Tenor and since 2008 on the Raptor, it is now available on both in its new Dualelec format.
This version replaces valve handles with electric motors that allow all 17 functions of the sprayer to be controlled from control panels in the cab and at the side of the sprayer.
Once a function is chosen, the valves automatically move into the correct configuration before the operation starts.
Used with Berthoud’s Nivomatic electronic gauge, the Dualelec control panel permanently displays the volume in the tank and allows a volume to be programmed for filling with an automatic switch-off function, therefore reducing the risk of overflow.
